Joke of the Day: The Divorce That Wasn’t

An elderly man picked up the phone one afternoon and called his son. In a weary voice, he said, “Listen, your mother and I are getting divorced. Forty-five years of misery is enough.”

Shocked, the son nearly dropped the phone. “Dad, what are you talking about? You’ve been together forever!”

“We can’t stand each other anymore,” the old man replied. “I’m tired of seeing her face, and I’m done talking about this. Call your sister and let her know,” and with that, he hung up.

The son, now deeply worried, immediately dialed his sister. “You’re not going to believe this — Mom and Dad are getting divorced!”

“What?!” she gasped. “There’s no way I’m letting this happen.” Without another word, she called their father.

“You are NOT getting divorced!” she said firmly. “My brother and I are flying home tomorrow to talk this through. Until then, don’t call a lawyer or sign anything. DO YOU HEAR ME?” She hung up before he could respond.

The old man slowly put the phone down, turned to his wife with a sly smile, and said, “Alright… they’re both coming for Thanksgiving.”
