Federal authorities have arrested 64-year-old Anibal Hernandez-Santana after a drive-by shooting outside ABC 10 in Sacramento, California. The incident occurred in the early hours of September 19, just one day after a small protest took place outside the station. No injuries were reported.
According to the Justice Department, investigators later discovered a handwritten note in Hernandez-Santana’s vehicle. The message referenced several public officials, including Attorney General Pam Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel, and Deputy Director Dan Bongino. Authorities said the note suggested they were potential future targets, citing concerns related to the Jeffrey Epstein case.
Variety reported that Hernandez-Santana’s social media contained frequent criticism of former President Donald Trump. In several posts, he expressed strong opposition to the administration and suggested he was prepared to “fight like hell.” His attorney, Mark Reichel, argued that his client’s political views are drawing additional scrutiny, stating that “they’re going to say, ‘Boy, it sure shows that he’s liberal and left wing.’”
After initially being released on $200,000 bail by local police, Hernandez-Santana was rearrested on federal charges related to interference with licensed broadcasts. He remains in custody under federal hold. In response to the arrest, Patel posted on the X platform that “targeted acts of violence are unacceptable and will be pursued to the fullest extent of the law.” The case remains under federal investigation, and authorities have not confirmed whether additional charges will be filed.
