Packages Vanish After Neighbor Moves In

For weeks my online orders disappeared the moment they arrived. I assumed delivery errors at first, but the pattern was unmistakable: boxes left on my porch vanished within minutes. Curious and frustrated, I set up a camera and finally caught what was happening. One quiet night at 1 a.m., the footage showed a young woman in a faded green hoodie approach my stoop and take a package.

I was furious, but I hesitated to call the police. I wanted to be sure and I also wanted to teach a lesson without escalating the situation. The next evening I left a decoy package on my porch — not dangerous, but designed to surprise and deter. When the woman returned and took the box, a chorus of alarms and a burst of glitter erupted, drawing attention and humiliating her in the street.

I watched from my upstairs window as she stood frozen, then ran off with glitter clinging to her hair. After the incident I had mixed feelings. Part of me felt vindicated — my deliveries stopped disappearing — but another part worried I had crossed a line. The prank was intended to be harmless, yet it involved deception and embarrassment. I imagined how quickly the situation could have escalated if she had reacted angrily or if the device had caused unintended harm. Friends and neighbors expressed concern, telling me I should have handled the situation differently.

Reflecting on it, I realized there were safer, more constructive options. I could have confronted her face-to-face during daylight, filed a report with local law enforcement with the footage, or spoken with the building manager. Community solutions, like neighborhood watch groups or having packages delivered to a secure pickup point, provide protection without humiliating anyone. This experience taught me that frustration can drive poor decisions and that gratification — getting immediate revenge — often leaves a lingering unease. If you’re dealing with missing packages, document the problem, involve authorities if necessary, and prioritize safety and legality. Pranks may feel satisfying in the moment, but resolving conflict responsibly preserves both peace of mind and community trust.
